 How Does Dumpster Rental Work?

Here’s the step-by-step process to take when renting dumpsters for your construction site or renovation project.

  • Determine the type of waste you will be disposing of

Identify what kind of materials you need to dispose of, such as household debris, construction waste, yard waste, or mixed materials.

  • Choose the right dumpster size
    • 10-Yard Dumpster: Ideal for small cleanouts, such as a single room or small garage.
    • 20-Yard Dumpster: Suitable for medium-sized projects, like a basement or large garage cleanout.
    • 30-Yard Dumpster: Great for larger renovations, such as multiple rooms or extensive yard cleanup.
    • 40-Yard Dumpster: Best for major construction projects or full home renovations.

  • Schedule delivery

One to two-day notice is usually enough time for us to deliver the dumpster. Provide specific instructions for the placement of the dumpster on your property.

  • Prepare for delivery

Make sure the area is clear and accessible on the day of delivery. To protect your driveway or surface, place plywood or boards down under the dumpsters wheels to help prevent damage.

  • Load your dumpster
    • Load evenly—Distribute the weight of the waste evenly.
    • Break down large items—This helps maximize space.
    • Observe weight limits—Avoid exceeding the weight limit to prevent additional fees.
    • No overfilling—Ensure waste does not exceed the top edge of the dumpster.
  • Schedule pick up

When you’re ready for the dumpster to be hauled away, give us a call. We will come pick it up and dispose of materials.

3 Tips For a Smooth Dumpster Rental Experience

  1. Plan ahead. Schedule your dumpster rental in advance, especially during peak seasons.
  2. Communicate clearly. Provide clear instructions and communicate any specific needs or constraints.
  3. Stay within limits. Adhere to the rental agreement regarding weight limits, prohibited items, and rental duration to avoid extra fees.

What Is a Roll-Off Trailer Dumpster Rental?

A roll-off trailer dumpster is a type of waste container designed to be transported on a trailer, making it easily maneuverable. Unlike traditional stationary dumpsters, roll-off trailer dumpsters can be towed to different locations, making them perfect for projects that require frequent relocation, such as construction sites, landscaping projects, or large-scale cleanups. They typically feature an open top and are loaded by rolling the container off the trailer into place.

What Can You Put In a Dumpster Rental?

In general, it’s safe to dispose of a wide range of non-hazardous materials. This can include household junk like furniture, appliances (without refrigerants) and general trash, as well as common construction materials like wood, drywall, concrete, asphalt and bricks. Yard waste like branches, leaves, and grass clippings is also usually acceptable.

Hazardous materials such as these are generally prohibited.

● Hazardous waste (paint, chemicals, asbestos, etc.)

● Electronics (TVs, computers, etc.)

● Tires

● Batteries

● Refrigerants

● Medical waste

It’s important to check with the rental company for a comprehensive list of allowable and prohibited items to ensure compliance and avoid additional fees.

Can You Rent a Dumpster For Yard Waste?

Yes! Many rental companies, including Site Services USA, offer dumpster rentals designed to handle organic materials like branches, leaves, grass, shrubs and other yard waste (sometimes known as green waste). Renting a dumpster for yard waste is ideal for projects like:

  • Landscaping
  • Seasonal cleanups
  • Storm damage cleanups

It’s important to inform the rental company that the dumpster will be used for yard waste to ensure they provide an appropriate container and to comply with local disposal regulations. This helps in ensuring that the waste is properly composted or disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.

 Dumpster Weight Limits

The weight limit for dumpster rentals varies based on the size and type of dumpster as well as the rental company’s policy. Generally, smaller dumpsters like 10-yard sizes have limits between 2,000 – 4,000 pounds. Mid-size dumpsters like 20-yard sizes can support between 4,000 – 8,000 pounds.  Larger dumpsters (e.g., 30-yard or 40-yard) may have weight limits up to 5-6 tons (10,000-12,000 pounds) or more.

These limits are in place to ensure safe transport and to comply with local regulations regarding waste disposal. Remember to check with your rental company to confirm their policies.
